What should the new operation be in CS2?

The long-awaited Operation for Counter-Strike 2, which the community has been waiting for for over two years, is set to launch any day now. In this article, we’ll discuss what the new Operation in CS2 should look like to meet fans’ expectations.

When was the last operation in CS?

The latest Operation was “Predatory Waters,” which ran from September 22, 2021, to February 22, 2022, in CS:GO. It brought five new maps and five new collections to the game. But what will the Operation be like in CS2?

Comics

The first mention of comics appeared in-game six months ago. Although more than two years have passed since the last operation, the last official comic about CS was released eight years ago. At the end of that comic, it was clearly stated that a sequel was to follow.

In the latest CS2 update, the developers added a license for the Google font “Bangers.” Visually, it’s clear this font wouldn’t fit anywhere except comics.

New maps

By tracking the behavior of mapmakers, you can understand which maps to expect in the new operation. They are among the few people aware of future updates, as Valve contacts them with requests for operational map fixes. Moreover, mapmakers themselves aren’t very good at hiding this information.

The following cards have recently received significant changes: Thera, Memento, Assembly, Pool Day, and Mills. These five cards are likely to be included in the new Operation.

Keychains

Another major dataminer find is lines of code dedicated to keychains in CS2. The first information about keychains appeared back in 2017. At that time, information was available about six potential keychains: AK-47, Banana, Bloodhound, Grenade, Plasma Ball, and Sugar Skull. Keychains in CS2 will move and shake independently of the weapon.

Pets

In recent CS2 updates, new chicken animations were added, along with various lines of code for picking up and holding chickens. These are intended for viewing both in the inventory and in-game. Ever since the official release of CS2, the word “Pet” has regularly appeared in the game’s code.

The developers are likely preparing some new cosmetic item for CS2. Whether it will be pets that follow you around or something else is still unknown. Perhaps there will be a new mode where players will control chickens.

Cloth

The developers may be working on adding character customization. A similar concept was developed in the early stages of CS:GO, but was never implemented. Dataminers discovered 12 lines of code that correspond to this concept. The last one is the ability to customize the head, which most likely implies various modifications to hats and masks.

A completely new hair system for agents was also discovered in the game’s code. It can be concluded that the developers want to give gamers the ability to choose and customize their characters’ hairstyles.

So what will the operation be in CS2?

The new operation in CS2 will likely follow the “Battle Pass” format, as before, with rewards available for stars. Players will earn stars by completing various missions. Players will be able to choose which specific item they wish to acquire. New missions will be unlocked weekly.

Missions will likely take place on the Thera, Memento, Assembly, Pool Day, and Mills maps. Rewards could include all of the above items: keychains, pets, clothing, and hairstyles for agents. As a bonus, Battle Pass owners may receive a new Counter-Strike comic book.

After more than two years without operations, the developers are practically obliged to add something innovative to save face. The community, to put it mildly, has been waiting for operation-style content for a long time and is eager to get it as soon as possible.
